Beefsteak Varieties

Hybrid Slicers

Better Boy 75 days. Plump, juicy, deep red, often weigh more than one pound. Mid-season variety. Fruits are extremely flavorful, with brilliant scarlet skin and flesh that’s juicy yet firm. Excellent disease resistance. Indeterminate Hybrid
Big Boy Hybrid 78 days. Flavor is superb, with a perfect sugar/acid balance. Fruits are smooth blemish-free and uniformly round with thick meaty fresh, ideal for slicing or frying. Indeterminate Hybrid.
Bush Celebrity 67 days A new version of the ever-popular Celebrity that takes less garden space while retaining the same Celebrity fruit size and excellent flavor. Boasts the same great blend of sugars and acids in their flavor. Determinate Hybrid. Bush Champion 70 days While the compact plants grow only 24 inches tall, they yield plenty of big, meaty tomatoes that weigh in at 8 to 12 ounces. Their flavor is excellent, and the plants thrive in almost any type of climate. Determinate Hybrid.
Carnival 70 days Outstanding flavor, yield and disease resistance. Fruit ripens evenly and is uniform, large and meaty with few seeds. Plant growth is vigourous with good protective foliage. Determinate Hybrid.
Celebrity 70 days. A 1984 All-America Selections Winner. Incredible set of exceptionally flavorful, firm fruit on strong vines with good cover and disease resistance. Determinate Hybrid.
Early Girl 54 days. It’s hard to find truly tasty tomatoes early in the season, but Early Girl delivers every time. One of the earliest slicing varieties. Red fruits average 4 - 6 oz, slightly flattened. Indeterminate Hybrid.
Jet Star 70 days. Early, compact, good flavor, and crack free. Large globe shaped fruit. Not recommended for canning as this variety is low in acid. Indeterminate Hybrid
Mountain Delight 70 days. Developed at NC State Univ. Plants are compact with high yields. Determinate Hybrid.
Mountain Fresh 79 days. This is one of the most sought after Mountain varieties. Larger than Mt. Delight. Determinate Hybrid.

Heirlooms

Azoychka Russian 70 days This is a delightful small yellow beefsteak tomato that matures so early it will be one of the first varieties to ripen in your garden. Beautifully smooth, lemon yellow fruit weighs about 8 ozs. and is very flavorful, rich but pleasantly sweet with a delicious hint of citrus. Indeterminate.
Beefsteak 96 days. Produces huge, delicious, ribbed fruit on vigorous vines. Grow in wire cages for best results. Indeterminate.
Big Zac - 80 Days This is the tomato that holds the present "Largest" world record. Very vigorous and disease resistant. Feed well for the largest tomatoes. A good flavored meaty tomato. Thin to one fruit per truss for records. Indetermate.
Black Krim 60 days. A most unusual novelty. Fruits are a dark, deep red (almost a shiny black) with heavy green shoulders. Interior is a deep, reddish-green color. Sweet and tasty. Matures extremely early. Indeterminate
Box Car Willie 80 days. Offers a very heavy crop of good-sized, smooth red tomatoes with delicious flavor. Because of their abundance of medium-large size, they are a mainstay in the summer. Indeterminate.
Brandywine 90 - 100 days. Features one of the finest-flavored large tomatoes ever offered. Vigorous plants look like potato vines. Rose-pink fruits up to 1½ lb. Indeterminate
Brandywine Yellow 80 - 100 days. Fuzzy, potato leaf vines produce large fruits, weighing up to 2 lb. Excellent flavor and a creamy texture. Indeterminate.
Caspian Pink 80 days This wonderful beefsteak tomato is meaty, succulent, juicy and ultra-sweet. They weigh from 12 to 24 ounces. Many prefer it over Brandywine! Indeterminate.
Cherokee Purple 80 days. Very productive plants bear loads of 10-12 oz. dusky rose/purple fruit with deep brick red interiors. Thin skin and soft flesh, somewhat perishable, but eaten quickly! Indeterminate
Heinz 1439 70 days. This is a great variety for canning because it puts out a concentrated set of tomatoes that you can pick all at one time. Determinate.
Kellogg’s Breakfast 80 - 85 days. Lovely, pale-orange fruits are solid and meaty throughout, packed with mild, superb-tasting flesh. A long-season producer of large, fruits (up to 1 lb.) Indeterminate.
Mexico Reportedly to have been brought to the U.S. by a Mexican family living in the Midwest. The plants grow very tall and steadily produce good amounts of large (one to 2¾ pound), dark pink fruits. Not watery like some beefsteaks.
Mortgage Lifter 85 days. Extra-large pink fruits (1 - 2 lb. Developed in the 1930’s by M.C. Byles in Logan West Virginia to help pay his home mortgage off. Indeterminate
Nebraska Wedding 105 days. An old Great Plains heirloom. Produces huge, globe-shaped fruits of a deep orange color, weighing up to 10 oz. each. Determinate
Persimmon Orange 80 days Beautiful, golden-orange tomatoes have one of the best flavors of all orange tomatoes. Average 5 in. diameter and between 1 and 2 lbs., quite meaty with few seeds. Vigorous plants bear well. Indeterminate.
Pineapple 87 days Large beefsteak style tomato sometimes weighing up to two pounds. Ripens to a beautiful bright yellow, often with red stripes. This variety has a mild flavor and meaty flesh with relatively few seeds. Indeterminate
Rutgers 75 days. All-purpose variety, ideal for canning. Ripens evenly from inside out. 7 oz fruit with full-bodied flavor. Disease resistant. Indeterminate
Sioux 70 days. Originally released in 1944 by the Univ. of Nebraska and is worth planting today because of its incredible flavor and reliably large harvests even in hot weather. Indeterminate
Striped German 78 days. Incredibly beautiful tomato with flavor to match. Huge, bicolored and ribbed fruit. Yellow with red starting at blossom end. Striking slicer with fruity taste. Indeterminate

Sauce/Paste

Banana Legs 75 days. Paste-type fruits are meaty with few seeds and a good taste. Very prolific. Determinate
Opalka 85 days. Great for sauce because its fruits are far richer and more flavorful than most paste tomatoes. Can be eaten straight off the vine, but is highly prized for sauces and canning. Indeterminate.
Roma 75 days. Most well-known paste-type perfect for sauces, pastes and catsup. Determinate
Super Marzano 80 days. A hybrid version of San Marzano paste tomato. Large, pear-shaped fruit are an average of 5” long. Fruit is high in pectin. Indeterminate.

Salad (small slicers)

Cluster Grande 70 days. Cluster tomatoes are becoming more popular, but most people prefer bigger tomatoes than those on the clusters sold in supermarkets. This variety bears larger 5 oz. fruit with excellent shelf-life, color and taste. Indeterminate Hybrid.
Patio 70 days. Plant produces large yields of 2" round red tomatoes. Excellent for small gardens or containers. Great for school projects. Kids love them. Disease Resistant: F. Determinate.
Super Bush 85 days. A variety that requires absolutely no pruning, staking or caging. Bears loads of large, luscious, meaty fruit all season long. Perfect for containers. Determinate Hybrid.
Vera Tomato Pepper 76 days. Yellow tomato, shaped like bell peppers, are perfect for stuffing. Vigorous vines produce loads of 3-4-lobed fruits. Indeterminate.

Cherry

Grape 60 days. This variety is currently very popular in the fresh produce market. The fruits are bright red, weigh about an ounce, and are smaller than most cherry tomatoes. Semi-determinate.
Jelly Bean Grape 72 days. Charming, grape-like fruits are aptly named for their bite-sized sweetness and intense, red color. Heavy clusters of up to 30 fruits each mature early on plants that have good disease resistance. Indeterminate.
Juliet 60 days. Holds on the vine with less cracking than any other cherry tomato. Clusters of grape-shaped tomatoes with glossy red skin, each weighing about an ounce. Indeterminate. Hybrid
Red Currant 75 days South American species of tomato produces huge branches of tiny fruit. Sweet yet tart with an intense tomato flavor. Vigorous plants yield heavily. (Note - currant tomatoes cross easily with other tomatoes, so don't plant near varieties you are going to save for seed). Indeterminate.
Snow White 75 days. Delightful ivory-colored cherry tomatoes ripen to pale yellow and are deliciously sweet without being sugary. Ours never get to the market, as they are eaten in the field (our sweetest cherry tomato). Indeterminate.
Sugary Hybrid 85 days Small, oval-shaped fruits have pointed ends with light green tops. Sweet pink flesh has an excellent taste. Semi-determinate
Sun Gold 57 days. A positively luscious, bit-size golden beauty overflowing with an abundance of fruits. Very early. Indeterminate
Sun Sugar 60 days. Same excellent flavor as Sungold, but the fruits are much less prone to splitting. Indeterminate.
Super Sweet 100 65 days. Huge, multiple-branched clusters of ½” very sweet fruit with high vitamin C content. Vigorous vines bear abundantly and need staking for best results. Indeterminate Hybrid.
Tiny Tim 60 days. Still one of the earliest most dependable, tree-like dwarf types for small garden or containers. Only 15” tall, yet yields many small 3/4” fruits. Determinate.
Tumbling Tom 90 days A truly trailing Tomato. Perfect for tubs and patio containers, cascading out of a hanging basket. Cherry sized, sweet and juicy fruits are produced in abundance throughout the summer. No sideshooting or training required.
Yellow Pear 78 days. Vines produce high yields of 2”, yellow-skinned, pear-shaped fruits with few seeds. Indeterminate.Beefsteak 96 days. Produces huge, delicious, ribbed fruit on vigorous vines. Grow in wire cages for best results. Indeterminate.
